We often get asked “What does Chiropractic treatment cure?” As much as it might surprise most of you, Chiropractic does not treat or cure your symptoms. What Chiropractors do is care for you by removing subluxations and allowing your body to function optimally.
You may notice that we talk about Chiropractic Care here at Peak Chiropractic Centre and don’t use the word treatment. I’m going to explain a little bit about why we do that.
Care: where serious attention or consideration is applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk.
We focus on person-centred care; we work collaboratively to support people to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to more effectively manage and make informed decisions about their own health and health care.
We coordinate and tailor to the needs of the individual. And, crucially, we ensure that people are always treated with dignity, compassion and respect. We understand and deliver care responsive to people’s individual abilities, preferences, lifestyles and goals.
Care is more active and proactive and empowers a person.
We call this the Inside-Out approach to health.
Treatment: medical care given to a patient for an illness or injury.
Physician-centred treatment is very provider-driven. That means that the treatment that is delivered, how it is delivered, who delivers it, and how outcomes are measured are all defined from the providers’ perspective (physicians, hospitals).
Treatment implies that you are broken and need someone to fix you. You are looking for someone to give you a quick fix or a cure.
Treatment is more passive and reactive and can be disempowering.
We call this the Outside-In approach to health.
At Peak Chiropractic Centre, our interactions with our practice members are all designed to give you the information you need to make an informed decision about and be pro-active towards your health and well-being.
The Chiropractic philosophy understands that the power that made the body, heals the body and while Chiropractors can help you to remove those subluxations, it is your own body that does the healing.
While treatment may be useful in emergency situations, in your everyday life, do you want to be treated or cared for?
