Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.” AJPM 1994

Your posture is vital to how your body looks and feels but is also vital to your health.

Posture is not how you hold your body up, it is how your body holds you up!

Correcting posture issues can alleviate and prevent myriad of health disorders.

This can include sore and strained muscles, disc injury, scoliosis, lifting injuries, aches and pains from driving and sitting, sports injuries, back pain, neck pain, headaches, carpal tunnel, shoulder and ankle injuries. Yes, they are all related to your posture.

In short, proper posture means your body can work as designed. And when your body works better, you feel better.

At Peak Chiropractic Centre, in addition to neurological, orthopaedic and Chiropractic examinations, and X-ray imaging, we use the latest digital technology to accurately assess your posture.

What is ‘normal’ posture?

When you view your body from the side, we should be able to pass a straight line through the centre of your ear, centre of your shoulder, centre of your hip, centre of your knee to just in front of your ankle. In this position your body is most ‘at ease’.

If any of these alignments are out, it has a knock-on effect on the rest of your body and increases the amount of stress that your body is under. These deviations from normal can be summed up as a single number: your posture score.

To calculate your posture score, we simply take 2 photos of you – one from the front and one from the side – in your standing neutral posture. These photos are then entered into our specialised posture analysis software. The software uses certain anatomical landmarks along with some sophisticated maths to accurately evaluate your posture and calculate your individual posture score.

These digital posture scans are safe and can be used on children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Can you change posture?

During your Chiropractic care we re-do the digital posture scan which allows us to objectively demonstrate the measurable changes in your standing neutral posture.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure that it is manageable for you. It is OK for it to not feel comfortable, just make sure you won’t end up getting fired or divorced for it!
