We often think of connection as something that happens outwards. We think of our connections to the significant people in our lives, especially approaching Valentine’s Day. A connection that is often overlooked, however, is that which we have with ourselves. We forget that our brains and bodies function as a single synchronous unit – how we think affects how we feel, and how we feel affects how we think.

Bruce H. Lipton PhD talks about a mind, body, spirit connection. Our minds are responsible for interpreting all incoming data from our environments in an attempt to establish coherence between our internal beliefs and the external reality. Our bodies respond to this by releasing certain chemicals that affect our physical health- for the better or for the worse. If our beliefs about the world and ourselves are negative, the result will be distress, dis-ease and disruption in our bodies. If we spend each day perceiving events like traffic or the office printer not working as threats, our bodies will produce stress hormones that shut down our immune systems, growth, and ability to think clearly.

If we have nervous systems free of interference, they are less prone to launch a stress response to small daily stressors. Many people under Chiropractic care notice that they are calmer, less irritable and that life seems like less of a battle. Mountains become molehills once more.

Let’s go into the season of love this year with a focus on ourselves. Love yourself, care for yourself. You have more power over your health and wellness than you may believe.
